How to Check the Reason for Your Steam Account Restriction Yourself

The quickest way to find out why you can’t send or receive trade offers is to try creating a trade offer with a friend directly in Steam. Steam will display a detailed message explaining the reason for the restriction—both when you can’t send an offer to someone and when someone can’t send an offer to you.

How to check this in Steam:

  1. Go to any friend’s profile on Steam

  2. Click “Make a Trade Offer”

  3. If there’s an active restriction on your account or your friend’s account, Steam will display a detailed message explaining the reason and duration of the restriction.

ℹ️ This message will tell you exactly what is blocking the trade—whether the restriction is on your end or the other person’s. This is the fastest way to identify the problem before contacting support.

Missing or Outdated Trade URL

A Trade URL is a unique link associated with your Steam account that allows the platform to send a trade offer. Without a properly configured Trade URL, the trade cannot be completed.

The Trade URL changes every time you regenerate it in your Steam settings. If you’ve generated a new link in Steam but haven’t updated it on CaseHug, the old link won’t work.

How to update your Trade URL on CaseHug:

  1. Click the settings icon in the top-right corner

  2. Find the Trade URL field

  3. Paste the new Trade URL and click “Save”

You can find your current Trade URL in Steam:
Inventory → Trade Offers → Who Can Send Me Trade Offers → Copy Trade URL

Private Steam profile or inventory

Your Steam profile and inventory must be set to public. If your settings are private, the platform bot cannot send trade offers.

Change your visibility settings in Steam: Profile → Edit Profile → Privacy Settings → Public Profile + Public Inventory

Steam Guard active for less than 15 days

Steam requires that your Steam Guard mobile token be active for at least 15 days before your first trade. If you’ve just activated Steam Guard or switched devices with the Steam app, you’ll need to wait out this period.

Temporary trading restrictions following changes to your Steam account

Any change to your Steam account’s security settings may result in a temporary trading lock. Below are all the situations that can trigger such a lock:

Changing your Steam
username After changing your Steam username, your account may be temporarily restricted from trading for 2 to 4 hours. Wait until the restriction expires and try again.

Changing your Steam
account password After changing your password, Steam imposes a temporary trading restriction. The duration of the restriction depends on whether you have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled:

  • With Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled — the restriction lasts 5 days

  • Without Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator — the restriction lasts 15 days

Changing the email address associated with your Steam
account Changing your email address results in a temporary trading lock. Steam implements this security measure to protect your items from unauthorized access.

Changing the phone number associated with your Steam
account Removing or changing the phone number associated with your Steam account may result in a temporary trade lock.

Steam Trade Protection — 30-day trade lock

If your Steam account was compromised and you’ve regained access to it, Steam automatically imposes a 30-day trade lock as a security measure. During this time, you cannot send or receive trade offers on any platform. The lock expires automatically after 30 days.

⚠️ The Steam Trade Protection block is imposed by Steam—CaseHug cannot shorten or remove it.

Active VAC trade ban or platform ban

If your Steam account has an active trade ban, you cannot withdraw skins until the ban expires, or permanently in the case of a permanent ban.
